“The rock on the jobsite has stayed on the jobsite substantially reducing costs of trucking material in and out. It has also allowed us to quickly change directions if we encounter any problems.” said General Manager Fred Nicoll of Latham Excavation.

Operators continue to excavate Building Pad rubble from blast and load
into crusher

The emphasis in week 3 will be to complete the north parking structure all the way to paving. This would allow for a staging area for other subs and maintain a clean looking job site as well as offer parking for employees and other subs. The building pad which consists of two buildings roughly covers 1 acre of the jobsite. Building A had a large cut, about 17 vertical feet to subgrade. Building B had about 4 feet of vertical cut. Both of these building pads have been excavated with the rock going thru the track mounted crusher and producing aggregate base rock.“The rock on the jobsite has stayed on the jobsite substantially reducing costs of trucking material in and out. It has also allowed us to quickly change directions if we encounter any problems.” said General Manager Fred Nicoll of Latham Excavation. The crew will then move toward the east of the project to begin sub grade work.

Some drills had to go down 17 feet in order to get hard lava rock broken up.
We’d like to thank Quality Drilling & Blasting, LLC for their services on this project.

The following weeks will be focused on storm water drainage and retention, footing excavation for the building & water services including fire. The project will have a completely different look after week 6 as much of the subgrade and trees have been removed. Prepping for parking lot and paving will round out the major excavation push. Estimated time to completion except paving will be end of November 2007. The paving is expected to be spring 2008.
